New Bike Tires airless

  • It was time, time to upgrade my bike tires. I was done replacing them!

I like to ride my bike to and from work through the summer but stopped due to popping so many tires. As most whom have rode on the mean streets of New York, know that almost all are filled with pot holes. Getting a flat tire is almost definitely going to happen if not once but several times. I look forward to the day I don’t have to deal with them but as for now I am stuck until I retire.

To solve this on going problem of mines. I decided to go AIRLESS.Bought tires From a company Called Tannus

The best part of this company is they have all different colors, from white, black, green, blue, red and even yellow.  They have even more colors but it depends on the size of tire.  I really wanted to get yellow because a few days earlier I had seen it on another bike and liked how it looked. I knew that yellow would go nice with my green bike frame.

To me this was a steal to having to replace my air tube every few months.

Before and After

I really didn’t like how my old rim looked with the stock labels still on from when I first purchased my bike years ago. I thought about buying new tire frames but decided to just reuse with I had.

AND SO IT BEGins…

Taking my old tire and tube off was relief knowing I would never have to fix another tire again.  With the tire off it was time to start removing the old sticker labels and cleaning up some of the scratches.

By far the easies way to remove the stickers is to take a hair dryer or heat gun then peel off gently. For some reason this little hack helps to remove any label or sticker on almost any surface. To help clean and fix the scratches I used a boil-lo pad & a polisher cream. also a lot of elbow grease. When I thought they looked almost brand-new I taped out part of the edge to get ready for painting. Before I had thought about how I wanted them to look and I thought that by painting a black line at the edge of the tire frame it would just help make the yellow tire pop.

As you can see from the above photo I took small pieces of tape… taping off the part that I didn’t want my black paint to get on. I did this process on both sides before taking my flat black spray paint.
